All Top 13 American Idol finalists will perform songs from the "king of pop" Michael Jackson on Tuesday, according to an E Online.com article. David Cook last year sang "Billie Jean" and pulled off the song due to his unique rendition. But can this year's finalists do justice to the songs that many Idol contestants in past seasons failed to impress the judges with? Unless each person does a different style like David Cook to the songs, then there may be criticism from Simon, Paula, Randy, and Kara. E Online.com says Jackson could make an appearance, but it is unlikely. Plus, there will be enough star persona with first year Idol winner Kelly Clarkson and popular rapper, Kanye West, performing on the results show.Photo from E Online.com
I am underwhelmed by last night's Michael Jackson extravaganza. If I'm going to be completely honest, part of the disappointment was knowing David Cook wouldn't be popping in to reprise MJ's Billie Jean. But still. Let's recap, shall we? In no particular order- How boring was Lil? I forgot she was singing half-way through. And the girl "has chops". No doubt. However, I was more intrigued by her poor choice in pants, than by her performance. (White satin pleated pants don't do anyone any favors;Glam Squad fell asleep at the wheel on that one.) I can never remember the oil rig guy's name, and I also can't remember what song he sang. That is never a good sign. I am sure he has the blue collar vote, and seems like a genuinely likable guy, but there is no star power there. If I want ruggedly-cute and Average Joe, I'll go back and download a Josh Gracin song. Or better yet, I'll hang on to see what cutie pie Kris Allen has to offer. He has everything except the "wow factor". Nicely groomed, adorable, definitely can sing, but not sure he is revving anyone's engines just yet. I think Simon nailed it- the behind the scenes with him and his wife in the matching aprons should have waited a few weeks. Hard to get the fangirl vote when all the chicks are picturing you cooking whole wheat pasta with your perfect blonde wife. But maybe he can spice it up in the next few weeks...
ReplyDeleteAllison and Alexis both need to stay on to show us more. I'd like to see them each do a song with more range and less anger. We'll see. Biggest surprise of the night for me was Matt. Matt G. did look a little like Justin Timberlake behind that piano. I'd have put money in his tip jar for sure. Glad they had him back. On the weaker side, Megan C. confuses me. I don't understand all the hype. Bizarre dance moves aside, I don't get the voice. Quirky, yes. But is that always a good thing? I think she will tire quickly.. Jasmine is precious and talented and forgettable. Poor little Anoop. I was always rooting for him. I can't believe no one talked him out of Beat It. He should have known better. If he makes it through, I hope he gets better advice next time. Jorge made me cringe last night and I am ready to send him home. And I am not afraid to say that Scott needs to go with him. I am not swayed by his story; he has overcome a lot, but American Idol he is not. And then there is Danny. I love his nod to Robert Downey Jr., and the way he coordinates his glasses to every outfit. Plus, that is one worship leader that can rock a mic. He is obviously a frontrunner (although Paula needs to calm down just a little-)and for good reason. He's got the look, the voice and the stage presence to take it all the way. Let's hope he doesn't get Daughtried. He's kind of a milder version of Cook- a little gentler, a little sweeter, and a little more 'good'. Which also makes him a little less hot. I doubt the AI forums will be dedicating as many picture threads and "after hours "discussions to Danny....
Speaking of after hours discussions, let's discuss Adam Lambert. That kid has got some mad, crazy skills. I'm still on the fence about him, though. There's been talk of his theatrics and overdoing it, and I am inclined to agree. Sometimes I get embarassed for him during his kicking and wailing. Then other times, I am in awe. Let's see which way he goes..
Looking forward to tonight and finding out how they are 'changing up Idol'. Am also looking to forward to seeing Kelly Clarkson and Allison side by side, as I am getting the two confused.
